Student Travel and Conference Funding

Provides VIU students with funds to offset the costs of attending or presenting at a conference.

Adopt-a-student

Covers the registration cost to the annual BC Tourism Industry Conference.

Value: Cost of conference registration; ~$500

Planning Institute of British Columbia Annual Student Conference Funding

The PIBC Annual Student Conference Funding provides financial support or subsidies to support Student members’ attendance at the PIBC Annual Conference each year.

CUR - Social Sciences Student Travel Awards

The Social Science Division of the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) is offering a limited number of travel grants for undergraduate students presenting the results of research that they have conducted at a regional or national, discipline-specific meeting during the academic year.

Value: Up to $200 USD

Deadlines: VIU is allotted one per year.These are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, so apply early!

Availability: Undergraduate Social Science students

Mitacs Accelerate

Provides funding to create a paid internship at an organization that needs your expertise.

Value: Funding starts at $15,000

Deadline: Apply anytime

Availability: Undergraduate students can do up to two four-month internships, master's students can do up to four-month internships.

Canadian Psychological Association Student Awards

Numerous available in various sections.

Reach Award

Provides funding for student engagement in research from study design to knowledge mobilization.

Value: $3,000

Deadline: October 31 @ 4pm [If Oct. 31 falls on a weekend, the deadline will be the first proceeding Monday @ 4pm]

Availability: Undergraduate (N = 10) and Graduate (N = 5) 

Milner Gardens & Woodland Undergraduate Research Awards

Intended to foster student research at Milner Gardens & Woodland. The project may be primarily student driven or one that is associated with a faculty member’s research program.

Value: $1,000 + $250 for approved budget items

Deadline: October 31 @ 4pm

Hannah Summer Studentship

Offers undergraduate students and MA students an opportunity to study and learn the techniques of historical research and to encourage future serious study of medical history.

Value: $5,500

WorkSafeBC Research Training Awards

Funds projects that provide insights and solutions for real issues faced by workplaces and WorkSafeBC.

Value: $20,000 stipend + $2,500 research and travel allowance

CPA Student Travel Bursary

To encourage students to attend the annual conference of the Canadian Psychological Association and present their research.

Planning Institute of British Columbia Annual Student Fellowship Award

The PIBC Annual Student Fellowship Award provides funding to support Student members’ attendance at and participation in the PIBC’s Annual Conference, in order that they may present their academic work to professional colleagues and conference attendees as part of the program of the Annual Conference.

The W.L. Mackenzie King Memorial Scholarship

The Mackenzie King Open Scholarship is open to graduates of any Canadian university who engage in (commence or continue) graduate study (master's or doctoral) in any field, in Canada or elsewhere.

Value: $8,500

The CUR Psychology Division is offering a limited number of travel awards (up to $200 each) for undergraduate students presenting original psychological research results at a regional or national, discipline-specific meeting.

Value: Up to $200 USD

Availability: Undergraduate psychology students

The Maple Leaf Centre for Action on Food Security Scholarship in Food Insecurity

These scholarships will support graduate students who propose to pursue research that contributes to the body of knowledge on food insecurity, including determinants, risk factors, impacts, and the efficacy of potential interventions such as programs, policies, and market instruments.

CUR - Biology Student Travel Awards

The Biology Division of the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) is offering a limited number of travel grants, for undergraduate students presenting original biological research results at a regional or national, discipline-specific meeting.

Value: Up to $250 USD

Availability: Undergraduate biology students

Michael L. Warsh Law Corporation Award

This award recognizes outstanding student research. VIU students apply via their Scholarship Profile on their student record. For senior students in their last year intending to pursue graduate studies.

Value: $500

Deadline: March 31 (done via the application on the Student Record System)
