CFI’s biennial Innovation Fund is a competitive program that funds large-scale (>$1M total project cost) infrastructure projects. CFI funds research equipment and components, software subscriptions and licenses, laboratory furniture, communications infrastructure, building renovations essential to house and use the infrastructure and other infrastructure-related costs.  Research projects from all disciplines are eligible to apply to CFI, however, key themes for the 2025 Innovation Fund competition include:

  • Funding the social sciences, humanities and the arts and the
  • Role of core facilities in the research ecosystem

The 2025 Innovation Fund competition is launching shortly. VIU will have an envelope (with a maximum $ amount) of funding that we can apply for and we will use a competitive process to determine the projects that we will submit to the CFI, starting with a Call for Expressions of Interest. Attend this information session to learn more about the Innovation Fund and the Call for Expressions of Interest.
