Congratulations Dr. Sharon Hobenshield, Maureen Thomas and Tine Reimers, BC Campus 2021-22 Research Fellows!

The BC campus Research Fellows program provides support for B.C. post-secondary educators to conduct research on improving student learning and to share their results and experiences with peers in B.C. and beyond. Maureen Thomas and Tine Reimer's research question will be: How can VIU, as a public post-secondary institution, be responsive to the findings and considerations in the Making a Difference: “Walking away with a Good Mind and a Good Spirit” Report that endorses the vision of stewardship to uphold the ecological, social, and spiritual values of Coastal First Nations, including the protection of ancestral territories and economic health for communities. And Sharon Hoenshield's primary research question is: What processes and protocols are necessary to engage in the kinds of relationships that foster a co-creation approach to community-based teaching and learning with Indigenous communities?

What's Happening

As BC begins to resume activities, VIU researchers need guidance on how to request and receive approval to resume their research activities.
VIU CARES is an online (via Zoom) symposium that will be held on Thursday Nov. 12th from 9am to 12pm, that will feature presentations about projects supported through VIU's Regional Initiatives Fund (RIF). The RIF is a partnership with the Province of British Columbia and the Real Estate Foundation of BC to enable communities of Vancouver Island to collaborate on community-based research projects with VIU Faculty and students.
The ‘Zoom into Lunch & Learn’ series provides presenters and attendees with opportunities to share, learn, and discuss their insights and ideas.
