CANCELLATION: all march break activities are cancelled and we are closed to the public
Cancellation of events at Deep Bay Marine Field Station:
Vancouver Island University (VIU) has been working hard to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and has been actively monitoring this situation and updating our response every day.
Unfortunately, with growing concern and careful consideration, we have decided that scheduled events at Deep Bay Marine Field Station were not in the best interests of staff or attendees. Therefore, we have decided to cancel the scheduled daily March Break events at Deep Bay Marine Field Station and close to the public. We understand that this may affect several families and visitors who were looking forward to visiting the station for those scheduled events. However, we know that this decision improves the overall health of the community.
We apologize and we understand that this is a frustrating time for families. We would also like to re-iterate that we are not aware of any VIU employees, either on Nanaimo, Parksville, Cowichan or at Deep Bay Marine Field Station sites that have contracted COVID-19. These measures are preventative and ensure the overall health of staff and visitors. We are trying to flatten the curve and deter the spread of COVID-19. This is also an ever evolving situation and events in the near future are still uncertain please stay tuned to our social media and website (www.viu.ca/deepbay) for more information and to see if our hours change.
We are no longer open to the public for drop-in visits beginning March 16th, 2020.
