Public Education
The station has an exciting marine science and shellfish aquaculture public education program. We have both guided and self-guided tours of the station where visitors can see local marine invertebrates in our aquariums and touch tanks, watch our research scientists at hard at work in their labs from our viewing mezzanine, discover marine animals under our microscopes.
Hours
The station is closed to the general public from fall to spring during the academic year. We are open for public visits on a drop-in basis from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily, from the May long weekend to the September long weekend.

The cost of admission to the station is:
Adults (18+) $ 13.00
Students (6 -17) $ 7.00
Children (up to 5) Free
Annual Season Pass - Family: $100 (2 adults, two youth)
Annual Season Pass - Individual: $35
Guided Tours
Join our guides as they share their knowledge about VIU's shellfish aquaculture research program, the value of sustainable seafood, features of our LEED-certified green building, local marine ecosystems, whales of the Salish Sea, and marine invertebrates of BC. Tours include touch tank time where you can interact with sea stars, crabs, molluscs, sea cucumbers and other denizens of our local waters.
Tours are available year-round for groups of at least 10 people by booking in advance via the link below. Tour cost is included with the regular admission fee. If you have any questions please e-mail us at deepbay@viu.ca.

Notes
- Children 5 and under are free when accompanied by an adult
- Vancouver Island University students and staff pay student rate upon presentation of student or staff card.
- Vancouver Island University alumni receive $2 off admission rate upon presentation of alumni card.
- Season Passes are available for those who like to visit often!
- Pets are not allowed except for certified guide dogs.
- Accessible washrooms and elevator on site.
