The VIU Deep Bay Marine Field Station is open to the public from May 16th to August 29th, 2025.

Key Information

• We are open from 10:00am to 4:00pm.
• No appointment is needed, just drop in! 
• You can expect to spend from one hour (casual quick visit) to several hours (families with kids, visitors who want to bring lunch to eat outside, or aquaculture, marine science and critters enthusiasts).
• Touch tanks are open for you to experience local marine invertebrates when staff supervision is available. Please anticipate some touch tank closures of up to half an hour for staff breaks and animal rest times.
• When visitor flow and staffing allows, we offer half-hour guided tours of labs and marine exhibits. We usually wait for 10 or more people tote on-site start a tour, and tours may require touch tank closure. Staff will make announcements when a tour is planned.
• We do not have food available on-site, but we do have cold, flavoured water, and a few non-perishable snacks.
• We are an active educational facility. During May and June, and even over the summer, we host school classes, post-secondary courses, and hold public events. Please consider this when planning your visit. You can check what's on using our calendar.
