Decorated Warbonnet, Chirolophis decoratus

Habitat: Tend to live in rocks and crevices or seaweed beds along the rocky ocean floor. They can be found from subtidal areas to 91 metres.  

Description: An eel-like fish with large pectoral fins, a dorsal fin that extends almost the entire length of its body. They range in color from orange to green. Generally they have a moss like decoration atop their head that resembles a seaweed. Generally very shy and do not travel far from home.

Distribution: Northern Alaska to Baja California

Fun Fact: Its head decoration known as a cirri is thought to help with camouflage but it could also be used as a lure for prey or mates.
