Information Session - Canada Foundation for Innovation 2025 Innovation Fund

CFI’s biennial Innovation Fund is a competitive program that funds large-scale (>$1M total project cost) infrastructure projects. CFI funds research equipment and components, software subscriptions and licenses, laboratory furniture, communications infrastructure, building renovations essential to house and use the infrastructure and other infrastructure-related costs.  Research projects from all disciplines are eligible to apply to CFI, however, key themes for the 2025 Innovation Fund competition include:

Research Showcase and Celebration: Faculties of Health Sciences and Human Services and Education

All are welcome to join us at this event designed to showcase the various points of excellence in research, scholarship and creative activity in these two Faculties. The format will be five-minute lightening talks given by researchers in HSHS and Education. Come join us to learn, be inspired, and share in community (cash bar and light snacks will be provided). 

ITCH Medieval Madness play

Join us for our Inclusive Theatre Collective's production of "Medieval Madness", an original script by student Ceridwen Nord. In this witty whodunit, kings and knights, processes and pals try to figure out who is the culprit. In this fun farce, students take on both performance and technical roles. 

Oysters are our World

Oysters are our World: Public Event to Showcase VIU Shellfish Aquaculture Teaching and Research at the Deep Bay Marine Field Station.
- Faculty and student research presentations and posters
- Public lectures on marine science and seafood
- Guided tours of the station, grounds
- Boat tours of aquaculture farm
- Marine science-themed activities and displays from VIU STEMantics
- Seafood from local community partners (complimentary!)

Effective Writing Strategies

John Hill from VIU’s writing centre will present and then lead a discussion about writing strategies that include ideas about where, how and when. John will share the experiences and successes of people from the writing workshops he has led here at VIU. This session will offer encouragement for an often difficult stage of the graduate studies journey.

Research and Creative Activity Symposium

Join this celebration and showcase of scholarship, research and creative activity at VIU. The day will begin with a panel presentation by Dr. Deborah Saucier and Dr. Michael Quinn who will share their perspectives on the role of SRCA at VIU. Throughout the day, VIU employees will share the projects they are pursuing in various formats including 15-minute presentations, posters and short 3-minute slams. This is a great way to learn about the many and varied projects underway and identify potential collaborators who share your interests.
