Virtual Zoom Sessions (more traditional poster session, using Zoom as the room)
Research Posters
- Sessions will run April 12-15, 10am-3pm
- There will be two evening sessions on April 14, 6-8pm
- Sessions will be organized either by Faculty or by Theme
- Students will receive their session time in March
- Poster files need to be emailed to CREATE@viu.ca by April 5th.
- It is expected that each student presenter attends their entire one-hour session (you can't just present then take off)
- The student will share their poster with the session attendees by sharing their screen in Zoom and will be allocated 5 minutes to highlight their poster
- Students will also submit their poster to be viewed with VIUSpace; these links will be shared at the session as well
- Document
- Make sure to include the VIU logo on your poster
- Make sure your poster is readable without having to zoom in when displayed at full-screen width (pics are good and light on the text is good)
- Size ratio is based on a standard widescreen monitor, 16:9. If you are making your poster in PowerPoint, this size ration is an option.

Public Domain and Creative Commons Image Resources
Our Copyright Librarian Lori Walter has shared this excellent UBC resource. It includes links on how to cite images and LOTS of sites that have images you can use. Please read the licensing conditions of each site you find to ensure it permits your specific use.
Two sites with collections of images that have minimal copyright concerns are:
Pixabay: Photos and clip art published under CC-Public Domain license (free of copyright restrictions). But note that sponsored Shutterstock images are also shown during searches but are NOT free of copyright restrictions. Those images are marked with a gray background and display the Shutterstock logo.
Unsplash: Free high-resolution stock photos depicting a wide variety of subjects. 10 new photos are released every 10 days. All photos are licensed under CC License Zero. Can be used for commercial purposes.
If you have any questions about image use in posters, presentations, and other types of publications please connect with VIU's copyright office, they would love to help you out.
