Bring Lunch & Learn! VIU and the UN Sustainable Development Goals

Courtney Vaugeios, Projects Coordinator at the Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region Research Institute (MABRRI), will give an overview of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that address  global challenges related to poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice. She will also present findings of research on how VIU is currently meeting the goals as well as priorities moving forward.

BC Healthy Communities Society (BCHC) is a province-wide not-for-profit organization that facilitates the ongoing development of healthy, thriving and resilient communities. They provide a range of programs, resources and services through the lens of determinants of health and equity, in order to meet communities where they are at to address critical challenges such as active transportation; age-friendly communities; health and the built environment; multi-sectoral collaborations; walkability, etc. Join us to find out more about the important work they do across the province.

Community Partners Series: 'Where Harm Reduction Works: AVI Health & Community Services' with Dana Becker, Manager

AVI Health Centre offers low barrier, free treatment and support to people struggling with opiate addiction as well as HIV, HepC and sexually transmitted infections. They engage in community education and advocacy as well as offer support, treatments, testing, supplies etc. Come and find out more about this long standing community agency where 'harm reduction works'.

Student Training Session! Engaging in Ethical Research

Universities take ethical standards in research very seriously, and as they should. But doing  ethical research is not stressful, it is simply the right thing to do. The Research Ethics Board, Animal Care and basic protocols will be covered by our very own Ethics Officer.
