Keep It Simple Science Challenge

Knowledge Translation: (1) Activities that move research into the hands of people who can put it to practical use (Wikipedia). (2) Having fun and being creative helps (CREATE).

Calling all Science, Tech, and Health Students

CREATE is challenging you to take your somewhat complicated materials and translate it for all! You can do this via a poster, presentation, or limerick. Oh yes. Limerick. The main point is to make it all fun and informative at the same time.

Poster

This could be done in a number of ways. You could take that amazing limerick and then break it down on a poster to explain what each part means. Or perhaps you split the poster in two and have the discipline specific language on one side with a fun translation on the other.

Presentation

This could be a very fun SLAM! Take three minutes to describe something in your discipline to a room of 'lay-folks'. This isn't about non-intelligence, this is all about comprehension. Could also work very well as a 2-minute rant.

Limerick

First, what is a limerick?

The pure limerick event at CREATE just involves you sending us your limerick at create@viu.ca. We will post online for 'public' voting. The three that receive the most public votes will be assessed by a team of professionals and a winner will be proclaimed. Check out some of these examples (more can be found we are sure!):

How to participate

If you are interested in participating in this year's Challenge please fill out a CREATE registration form by March 6. You need to say 'Yes' to the question: 'Is this submission part of the Keep It Simple Science Challenge?'
