All Principal Investigators and personnel listed on animal user protocols are required to complete four (4) core training modules (Ethics in Animal Experimentation, The 3 R’s of Animal Experimentation, Guidelines, Occupational Health and Safety) provided through the VIU Animal User Training course on VIULearn. Additional training modules on biosafety and WHMIS are available on VIULearn if applicable. Additional information regarding biosafety can be found at Biosafety | Health & Safety Services | Vancouver Island University | Canada (viu.ca). Species and project specific training for users working directly with animals in animal holding areas is also required (for details contact ACS@viu.ca).
In addition to species and project specific hands-on training provided by skilled professionals, all Principal Investigators and personnel listed on animal user protocols are required to complete four (4) short core training modules provided through the VIU Animal User Training course.
