Key Activities

The BC Regional Innovation Chair is funded by the Leading Edge Endowment Fund (LEEF) and has completed several research initiatives in collaboration with the Urban Aboriginal Knowledge Network (UAKN) and Vancouver Island University (VIU).

The intention of Indigenous research is to align and anchor Indigenous knowledge, theory and practice in education, in order to develop collectively with communities a brighter future for Indigenous children, families and communities.

This is achieved by engaging students, faculty, Aboriginal communities and practitioners in ongoing dialogue to co-construct a revitalized curriculum based on Traditional First Nation philosophies, practices and cultural content.

Elders play a key role in conveying traditional approaches to child development, care and education.
