Graduate Scholarships

Please note the funding and awards listed below are ordered chronologically based on their DUE DATE in the academic year (September to August).

Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships

Designed to attract and retain world-class doctoral students by supporting students who demonstrate both leadership skills and a high standard of scholarly achievement in graduate studies in the social sciences and humanities, natural sciences and engineering, and health-related fields.

Value: $50,000 annually 

Deadline: Consult nominating institution for submission deadline. Expect EARLY fall.

Availability: Graduate (PhD level)

Canada Graduate Scholarships - Doctoral Program

The CGS D program supports high-calibre students engaged in doctoral programs in all academic disciplines.

Value: $35,000 per year for up to 3 years

Deadline: October 17 @ 8:00 p.m. (ET) 

Availability: Graduate (PhD level)

SSHRC Doctoral Fellowships

The SSHRC Doctoral Fellowships support high-calibre students engaged in doctoral programs in the social sciences and humanities.

Value: $20,000 per year for up to 4 years

Deadline: October 17 @ 8:00 p.m. (ET); 2020 competition will open July 29 

Availability: Graduate (PhD level)

NSERC Postgraduate Scholarships-Doctoral Program

Provides financial support to outstanding eligible students pursuing doctoral studies in a Canadian university.

Value: $15,000 USD

Deadline: November 15

Availability: Graduate

Chevening Scholarships

Chevening Scholarships enable outstanding emerging leaders from all over the world to pursue one-year master’s degrees in the UK.

Value: Flights, accommodation, and course fees are all included

Deadline: Applications open in August and close in November. More info will be posted as released.

Availability: For a master's level degree

Fulbright Formal Enrollment Awards

Intended for students who plan to enroll in a graduate program at an American university. The student must seek admission at the same time as they apply for a Fulbright award.

Value: $17,500 for 12 months

Deadline: December 1

Availability: For students entering their first or second year the following September. Normally, you apply for this in the last year of your undergrad, or the first year of your graduate program.

Canada Graduate Scholarships-Master’s Program

Scholarships for graduate students undertaking research either in health, natural sciences, engineering, social sciences or humanities.

Value: $17,500 for 12 months

Deadline: December 1

Availability: For students entering their first or second year the following September. Normally, you apply for this in the last year of your undergrad, or the first year of your graduate program.

Canadian Federation of Women Fellowships & Awards

A number of graduate awards for Canadian women.

Value: Varies

Deadline: Summer 2020 - Online Application Form posted; Winter 2020 - Applications due

Availability: Must be a Canadian women pursuing graduate studies (master's or PhD)

Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship

D5020 funds one District Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship (DRAS) for one year of study in a post-baccalaureate program related to the Object of Rotary or the new Mission of The Rotary Foundation.

Value: $15,000 USD, potentially more

Deadline: January 15, 2021

Availability: Graduate; DRAS scholars are required to study in a country other than Canada or the USA.

The W.L. Mackenzie King Memorial Scholarship

The Mackenzie King Open Scholarship is open to graduates of any Canadian university who engage in (commence or continue) graduate study (master's or doctoral) in any field, in Canada or elsewhere.

Value: $8,500 

Deadline: February 1 

Availability: Graduate

Scholarship in Food Insecurity

These scholarships will support graduate students who propose to pursue research that contributes to the body of knowledge on food insecurity, including determinants, risk factors, impacts, and the efficacy of potential interventions such as programs, policies, and market instruments.

Value: $15,000 

Deadline: February 2021

Availability: A master’s or PhD student of any discipline, enrolled at a Canadian university

Scotland's Saltire Scholarships

Towards tuition fees for any one year of full time study on a postgraduate Masters programme at any of Scotland’s higher education institutions.

Value: £8000

Deadline: July 31, 2020

Availability: For a master's student studying in Scotland
