VIU Scholarship, Research, and Creative Activity

SRCA Foundation Plan 2022-27

Over the past four years, VIU has realized exciting new opportunities in scholarship, research, and creative activity (SRCA). Our activity has been guided by our 2017-22 SRCA Plan which is nearing its final year. VIU’s new Strategic Plan: People, Place, Potential identifies clear and inspiring priorities for SRCA. We are now commencing work to develop VIU’s 2022-27 Foundation Plan for SRCA.

Why are we undertaking this process?

The Foundation Plan for SRCA will allow us to maintain and build momentum on the diverse range of activities happening at VIU over the next five years. It will also ensure alignment with the VIU Strategic Plan: People, Place, Potential and enable us to put in place the required services and supports to accomplish targets associated with SRCA.

How can you get involved?

There are numerous opportunities to provide input into this plan including:

  • Bring your lunch and have a conversation with Nicole Vaugeois, AVP Scholarship, Research and Creative Activity in Building 305 room 440, or via Zoom (zoom link) to share your ideas. The last session is on December 8 from noon to 1 pm.
  • Use the  Conversation Kit to organize your own conversation within your department or peers and submit your notes to following the conversation.
  • Encourage students to participate in the student focus groups (Contact Kendra Stiwich for more details.)
  • Encourage students to complete the student feedback form.
  • Share your thoughts with a member of the  steering committee or your Dean.
  • Send suggestions to

This plan is being guided by a steering committee who will review the consultation data in January prior to developing the goals for the plan. As with all VIU Foundation Plans, the SRCA Plan will go forward for consultation with President’s Council before approval by the Provost and Vice-President, Academic, and the Senior Management Team. It will also be provided for information to Senate and the VIU’s Board of Governors.
