World Oceans Weekend!

Come join us on Saturday June 9th and Sunday June 10th to celebrate our Oceans!

We will have all-ages activities happening between 11:00am and 4:00pm!

Saturday June 9th, 2018:

  • Drop-In Guided Tours at 11:00am and 3:00pm
  • Ocean Acidification Discussion and  Activity at 12:00pm!
  • Fish Printing Art Activity All Day (Bring Your Own T-Shirt!)
  • Wetland Walk Guided Tour at 1:00pm
  • And More!

Cost: $12/Adult and $7/Student (Children 5 and under free)

Foraging for Wild Edibles

Curious and hungry foragers will be led in small groups on a foraging excursion, learning about ocean delicacies, Pacific oysters and Manila clams direct from their shells on the shellfish research farm of Vancouver Island University at Deep Bay. Foragers will learn about First Nations’ use of shellfish, Vancouver Island’s marine ecology, and species identification. Local experts will discuss where and how to forage for shellfish and other edibles locally and how to make sure that your shellfish is safe to eat.

Spring into Pirate Camp!

Ahoy, matey! This fun and educational camp will introduce landlubbers to the science of the seas through pirate-based games and activities for all ages. Camp will be packed with science-based games, experiments, interpretive nature walks and beach explorations.

Please note that we will be closed this Friday, October 27th as our staff attend the BC Shellfish Growers Association's Annual General Meeting and Workshops. We're looking forward to hearing about new and exciting projects in the industry, as well as sharing our progress in the research hatchery.

We will resume regular operating hours the following Monday.
