VIU- Community Based Applied Interdisciplinary Research (CBAIR)

One of the objectives in VIU’s Academic Plan: Access to Excellence is to “sustain collaborative relationships, including research opportunities, with business and industry, communities, educational partners, governments and Indigenous communities in order to ensure suitable responses to regional cultural, economic, environmental and social needs”.

In order to achieve our commitment to serve the Island and Coastal region of BC, we strive to provide opportunities for our researchers’ students to meet with community partners to learn about their initiatives, realities and needs.

Read the Draft 'Principles / Guidelines for Responsible Community Involvement':

The principles are to be used as reflection and decision-making tools to increase the rigor and quality of community engagement whether it be for public events, community-based experiential learning, domestic or international partnerships, institutional or industry partnerships, community-based research, collaborative programming, etc.
