There are 3 aquaculture research assets located at the Nanaimo campus, which are building 373, 395 and 480. The service that could be provided of individual facilities are shown in tab below.
- R101 has an in-room RAS system and nine 6’ round tanks. Has been used for sturgeon grown out.
- R110 has an in-room RAS system and seven 6’ round tanks. Has been used for sturgeon smolts and fingerlings.
- R109 is open space. Can house an in-room RAS system or could have a water in/out run through the wall from the RAS system inR110.
- R107 has an in-room RAS system with nine 6’ round tanks.
- R104 is currently storage space but has been used for a swim flume.
- R106 has an in-room RAS system and is currently used for holding sturgeon brood stock.
- R111 is targeted at shellfish.
- R109 is a flexible space that can house its own recirculating aquaculture system (RAS). The room can house tanks of a variety of sizes, limited only by the size of the roll up door that allows access to the room. The RAS currently in the room is old and nonfunctional.
- R103 has two temperature controlled environmental chambers with individual RAS system in each chamber. The chambers and RAS systems have external alarms and emergency power.
- R117 is currently used for storage but is designed to house a RAS system.
- R106, 107, and 108 – Wet labs with flow through salt water from two depths in Baynes Sound.
- Greenhouse (not pictured) – Wet lab with flow through salt water from two depths in Baynes Sound. Capable of holding 12’ tanks. Lots of floor space. Very little thermal regulation, aside from ambient water temperature.
